Oxbridge Applications

Reed's offers a comprehensive programme to prepare students for Oxbridge applications.

In the Lower Sixth, potential Oxbridge candidates are identified and invited to join the Lower Sixth Extension Programme to build and develop critical thinking, evaluative skills and curiosity beyond the A Level syllabus. In the Upper Sixth, students are supported in their applications by the Director of Higher Education and Careers and individual mentors from specific subject areas.

Potential for Oxbridge entrance is strengthened by the Oxbridge Preparation Day, where applicants attend a day of workshops, presentations and interviews all designed to help them prepare for the next stage of the vigorous application process. After a workshop on critical thinking, subject specific workshops and a presentation led by a tutor from the Oxford admission team the students receive two mock interviews. This crucial stage of the day is assisted by visiting Oxbridge Old Reedonians who interview students and are able to share some of their own experiences of the interview process.

Later in the term the Oxbridge candidates attend subject-specific mock interviews at another local school, providing valuable experience in being interviewed in an unfamiliar location by an unknown person, thus ensuring that our students are very well prepared for whatever the infamous Oxbridge interview process can throw at them!

"I was inspired to apply to Oxford by an Old Reedonian who currently studies there. I had originally planned to apply to a conservatoire, as I attend the Royal Academy of Music, but the opportunity to perform at Oxford in addition to the world-class education seemed too good to miss.
I began my preparation over the summer holidays with extensive research around my subject. I also sent numerous drafts of my personal statement to staff members for feedback. A number of mock interviews, revision sessions, one-to-one mentoring sessions and EPQ conferences ensued in September, and without doubt the preparation provided by Reed's was extremely thorough, ensuring that I was in the best shape possible for my interview in December."
